Feb 20, Colonial Havana

We started the day by forcing ourselves out of bed, the earliest we had up until this point on the trip at 7:30. We had our breakfast, which was comprised of Cuban coffee, fruit, and eggs, and then made our way downtown in a taxi.  We met our guide under the statue of some guy riding a horse.  The tour was very informative, giving us a great understanding of the city.  Downtown Havana is busy, and people are quite aggressive with tourists walking around.  Having a guide makes it easy to see many different places that I didn’t know existed and keeps us on the right track.  We focused mainly on colonial times and walked through the small streets, stopping at a couple street markets along the way.  We were paired with a Canadian man who had been travelling for 5 months through South and Central America and lived in an all-inclusive for the last 3 weeks and a couple from Italy.  The other people made it an exciting tour as Abi joined in on a street dance, and the Canadian man was given a street performer's guitar and proceeded to sing us a song.  Overall it was quite informative 3 hours.  After the tour, we went for lunch with the Canadian guy and then caught a cab back to our place.  We went for dinner at a restaurant just a block from our house with a beautiful city view.  Very enjoyable day and a great way to see the city.

  1. Fun, glad you did a tour we learn so much and always interesting meeting fellow tourists. Pictures great, such a pretty city. There is a lot of interesting history about Ernest Hemingway as he spent a lot of time just outside Havana I believe.
