October 9th to 12th
Well, it has been a bit more than one day. I got back to Canberra and simply didn’t want to do any writing until 11 pm on Tuesday. Anyways, Queenstown is an incredible city. The town is equally popular as it is beautiful. Nearly 2 million tourists come to town each year. Queenstown is also one of the smallest towns in the world with a Louis Vuitton store. Queenstown has a population of about 15 thousand people. That is about the same population as Cold Lake, Ontario. A town so small you didn’t even realize that it is actually in Alberta. Either way imagine a Louis Vuitton store in the middle of Alberta. Anyway, my first day in Queenstown I decided to treat myself to a tour bus ride into Fjordland. The bus left at like 6 in the morning so it was an understatement to say I was not chipper. The bus rolls in and everybody is just standing next to the stop. As soon as one of the ladies sees the bus she starts elbowing through people to get to the entrance first. The driver tries to get off the bus to check people in but can’t open the door because this person's face is literally pressed against the glass. It was a hell of a long bus drive with the drier speaking the entire 10 hour journey. Fjordland is definitely an incredible trip worth doing again. It was so spectacular that even the losers on the bus weren’t able to ruin it for me. The next day was the day of the bungee jump. Now I felt pretty good the entire morning. Putting my harness on and taking the gondola out to the platform didn’t make me feel too bad. It was only when I looked over the edge of the platform when I just thought “What am I doing?”. The jump was good, it was like an extended dive. The worst part was getting pulled back up sitting in your harness looking down into the valley. To finish the day I hiked up the nearby hill and took the Gondola down. It was a nice way to end my trip. I got upgraded on the flight back to Sydney so I didn’t need to sit with my legs pressed into the seat in front of me. I was standing in Sydney waiting for my luggage when I saw the lady from the bus. My only thought was that I needed to be ready to stiff arm her if she comes at me with her elbows.
The End
