Budapest Day 3
On the final full day of the trip we did a final tour around the city. We got some coffee in the morning before stopping at an outdoor food court that was built between two old buildings. It was like an empty long lot that just decided to turn into a food court with like 8 food trucks. I got a Hungarian pizza. Basically the dough is deep fried and instead of tomato sauce they put sour cream, pretty light meal especially with the cheese and sausage on it. It probably wasn’t the smartest thing to eat as my first meal outside in 30 degrees but it was delicious. We walked around the downtown some more and headed back to the parliament. They have a free museum on the Black Thursday massacre. The communist history and society influence is pretty interesting and I appreciated learning about the dark history. We walked up to Margaret’s island in the middle of the river between Buda and Pest and stopped for an Aperol spritz at an outdoor bar. It was already 34 by this point so we were getting very tired of walking. We decided to take the train to the citadel to get out of the heat for a couple minutes. Luckily the hike up to the citadel was all in the shade the only unfortunate part was that the viewpoint at the top was closed for renovations so you couldn’t really see the city very well through the trees. Not sure why you need to put a giant fence around a lookout deck to do renovations. After the citadel we went back across the river to the food hall where I got some more sausage. We took the tram back to the place where we had a snack and just rested in the ac. We went back out around 8 when it was cooler for some pasta. I wanted to have one more delicious pasta while still in Europe and this place was great. After dinner we went out to get some gelato and then walked back up to the parliament to see it lit up at night. It was a nice last day of the trip and man I’m looking forward to getting back to Canada tomorrow.
What a great trip for you & Abi. It brought back so many memories for us of our trip doing a Habitat for Humanity build in Hungary & trip to Croatia & Budapest. We stayed near bridge by St Margaret's Island & Parliament Buildings. Great descriptions of sights & food Beck. Thanks for sharing. Safe trip home.❤️❤️
