Budapest Day 2
Our second day in Budapest, we decided to start taking the transit around a little bit more. We took the train, which is right below the hotel we’re staying at, towards the cathedral. We stopped at a nice little coffee restaurant, and I had an affogato. We bought tickets to go into the Cathedral, which ended up being a great decision because the inside was absolutely beautiful. I’m ranking it as the second most beautiful cathedral I have seen on this trip only behind Saint Peter‘s Basilica in the Vatican. However, every other Basilica in the top five were all in Rome. The duomo in Florence was beautiful but I wasn’t able to go inside. The detail in the Budapest cathedral was absolutely beautiful, and there was gold literally everywhere. After the cathedral, we walked across the river to the Buda side. We hiked up the hill to the castle. The top of the hill had a beautiful view of the city. We walked over to the fisherman‘s bastion and then down the hill where we had lunch at a little sandwich place. I had a pastrami sandwich on sourdough with sauerkraut. It was one of the best things I’ve eaten in the past week. At this point in the day, it was already about 34° so we decided to go and hit the thermal bath. They were relatively cheap in comparison to the other ones in Budapest and they had a bunch of different pools. They had three thermal pools between 32 and 40°, and a leisure pool outside. They also had cold pools which you could dunk yourself in in between the hot pools as well as a steam room and a sauna. We spent about four hours going between the thermal pools and the leisure pool which also had a lazy river. It was a really nice time and I left feeling quite relaxed from all the hot cold Nordic treatment. There were also no naked old men so that was a big win. I also didn’t take any pictures of the thermal bath because I thought it would be a little bit strange to be photographing people in their bathing suits. After the thermal pools, we took the trolley. That night we went for Thai food. We had a delicious pad Thai with dark soy sauce and shrimp. We went to get some Hungarian Chimney cakes for dessert, which ended up being a bit overrated. After that, we walked around a little bit more and stopped at a little bar for a drink. After we walked home and headed to bed. Tomorrow is our last full day. Looking forward to it.
