Budapest Day 1

On our first day in Budapest, we were still recovering from the train ride the night before. The debauchery at the hotel seemed to have been solved and the room we were staying in smelled very normal and we both had quite a nice sleep. The first thing on our list was to head up to the Heroes Square and then the city park. On the way there we stopped for breakfast and a coffee on a terrace by the road. I had a Panini with some Hungarian sausage in it and macchiato. The city Park was really awesome. There were so many different features, including a kilometre and a half running track, multiple outdoor workout sets and a bunch of sports courts. The city planning in Budapest is pretty awesome, it seems like it is a very liveable city based on how good the transit is, the quality of the parks and prices of food.

After the park, we took the metro down to the opera building and from there, we walked around the downtown area, walking past the major basilica, down the pedestrian streets and up to the Parliament. The architecture in the city is some of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. All of the iconic buildings have so much detail in every corner and it seems like there is always another building that you have not seen yet. After the parliament building. We walked down to the Food hall, which had a crazy amount of vendors selling all types of food. I got some spicy sausage as a snack, as well as some peaches and grapes. The sausage sticks were so good. They were by far the best meat sticks I had ever had. After the market we went and sat in a park by the river to eat our snacks. We took the tram back to the apartment where we hung out in the AC for an hour.

For dinner we got pasta. Me and Abi ordered ravioli, and they came out the size of pancakes. They were the biggest raviolis I had ever seen, but I guess it makes sense as making four big raviolis would be a lot faster than making 12 small ones. After dinner, I was encouraged to go for drinks at a Harry Potter themed bar. They put dry ice pods in the drinks so they looked like they were smoking. It was neat. After that our way back, we stopped at Burger King for milkshakes, first time having any North American restaurant food on the trip, sad that I broke. Tomorrow we also have a full day in Budapest, look forward to exploring more of the city.
