Last Day in Florence
I woke up super tired as i couldn’t fall asleep the night before. I checked my phone and it said 8:07 and I was supposed to see the David from 8:15-8:30. It was not the nicest wake up, running over to the museum. The Academia gallery was underwhelming other than that and only took me 20 minutes to finish. I went back to the hostel to make myself a free espresso and then started my day. I walked around the big tourist sights seeing the Duomo again and the town square. I got a sandwich with mortadella, strachiatella cheese, and pistachio pesto. It was probably the best sandwich I had in Florence. I continued across the bridge with all the little shops on it and walked through endless farmers markets as it was a Sunday. I have really enjoyed the standing and eating/drinking culture in Italy. Especially as a solo traveller I love that it is encouraged to just stand at the bar and eat or drink. I think there should be more standing eating specific areas in restaurants.
I did the Biboli botanical gardens which was covered in fountains and nice views of the city. It was very hot so on the way out I stopped for gelato . I walked back to my hostel and sat outside for a while when a loud American came over and wanted to chat with everyone. In the evening I departed again on a sandwich hunt. I found a very nice sandwich at a place called SandwiChic with prosciutto, mozzarella, and eggplant cream. It was very delicious. I sat at a fountain for a little while before doing one more time past the duomo and then coming back to the hostel. I made some free pasta in the kitchen and headed to bed. I am leaving for Rome the next morning.
Great commentary Beck ie your sandwich quest
