Ottawa to Florence

I left Ottawa Thursday morning having not really slept. We had been finishing packing all my stuff in the apartment that needed to go to Halifax on top of what I needed for my trip. So starting off the trip already decently tired was not part of the plan but did make 24 hours of travelling pretty fun. I had a 3 hour layover in Toronto before my flight to Frankfurt where I then transferred to Florence. For some reason I forgot that it would be important. The airport in Frankfurt was like a large maze. My flight to Florence was absolutely empty. I took the train into the city and walked to my hostel. Everything in the old town is small and the doorways open directly onto busy streets. Once I dropped my bags I walked over to the Santa Maria Cathedral and remembered being absolutely astonished when I turned the corner and saw it. My jaw was on the ground for the better part of the rest of the day as it just seems like there is endless amazingly beautiful architecture in this city. I kept having to remind myself that it is a real place and that I’m not in the Vegas recreation. It is really hard to wrap my head around how perfectly done everything is. I showed up at the hostel right at check in time as I wanted to take off my underwear I had been wearing for 24 hours. I fell asleep at 4 and have woken up in short chunks. Excited for the Ufizi gallery tomorrow.
