Coliseum and Roman Forum

This morning I was awoken by something a bit unordinary. There is a lady in our room who was using our bathroom while I was asleep and I just remember waking up hearing somebody farting loudly. I wasn’t sure what happened so I looked at the time and then I heard more loud farting coming from the bathroom. Then loud throat clearing and spitting. It turns out it was the little Chinese lady in the bathroom. I guess you really get a mix of characters in these hostels. After being awoken by these sounds I headed downstairs to have a cappuccino and started my walk to the coliseum. Rome is hot and I feel like I sweat through my shirt in 15 minutes no matter what time of the day it is. It always amazes me when I see people wearing full suites and jackets walking or biking. I can’t believe it’s possible in 30 degrees.

The coliseum was very interesting and beautiful just very busy. It was enjoyable nonetheless. I went into the forum and listened to an audio guide on my phone that gave me a brief tour of the centre street. It was so hot I finally had to break out the full brim outback hat. After the tour I just walked around more just admiring all the architecture. It’s crazy to think that when they decided to excavate the forum all of that stuff was about 10 meters under dirt.

After the forum I went to have some pizza. The spice salami was so delicious. I walked back to the hostel to get out of the heat. Later in the afternoon I headed to the park and hung out in the shade as much as I could. I went to get some €5 pasta at the bottom of the Spanish steps and had some Italian gelato. I headed back to the hostel briefly and then headed out again as I guilted myself to eat more as it was my last day in Rome. So I went out and got another sandwich with some salami and the strachiatella cheese, delicious. I came back to the hostel and had a nice chat on the phone. I have been lying in bed writing this when the Chinese lady returned immediately went into the bathroom and seriously started farting again. I am trying not to fall out of my top bunk laughing. I am off to Croatia tomorrow and excited to meet up with Abi in Dubrovnik.
