Feb 24-25, Havana to Varadero and Getting back to Canada
On the morning of the 24th, we woke up early at 6am to get down to the bus station on time to check in. The cab arrived at the Villa at 6:30, and we were gone soon after saying goodbye. We got to the bus station, checked in, got coffee and boarded the bus soon after. We spent about 3 hours on the bus from Havana to Varadero. It was quite exciting to leave Havana and move on to the final leg of our trip. When we made it to Varadero, we got off the bus and walked to the Airbnb where we were staying. The owner was super friendly, and she recommended a bunch of restaurants nearby that we should go check out. We immediately dumped our bags and headed for the Italian restaurant that she recommended for some pizza and midday drinks. After this, we walked a long way up along the beach until we hit the all-inclusive and stopped to look at the knickknacks. We bought some little espresso cups that we had used a bunch during the trip. We returned to the place and went to the beach to tan and swim for a couple hours. After I took a dip, we came back and went out for a little dinner. We walked around afterwards and headed home for the night.
We woke up early the next morning looking for coffee but could not find anything that was open. Our taxi picked us up from the place at 8:30. We waited in several different lines in order to get to our gate, but it was all worth it because I brought home some cheap rum. We left Cuba at 11 and arrived in Halifax at 4:30 and then drove home to Sackville, stopping at McDonald's along the way to reaccustom ourselves to Canadian food. It was an eye-opening trip and not exactly what I had in mind for Cuba. It was amazing to see a country so unique and get to know some of the challenges they are facing currently. I am greatly fortunate to be able to travel to such a country, and it continues to open my mind to people in general. At the end of the day, we all want similar things but find ourselves in different situations. All we can do is do what we can to make our situation the best for ourselves.
Thanks for letting us come along. I think you did a very good job of Havana. It is so good for us to see how other people live. Lets us know how lucky we are. Now back to the books.
